Hilarious.

I was going through my old email and came across an email I sent to my old English teacher, who wanted to catch up. It was dated August 28th, 2004.

I can't wait to start learning about my career in nursing!  Julie and I are taking the CNA class over at Harper this semester.  We start Wednesday and we're pretty excited!  We got to see our classroom Thursday and there are all these hospital beds and IV things (lol I don't know what they're called.......yet!)  Plus, these manikins whose hearts actually pump!  It's pretty crazy!  

Tara and I have become pretty good friends this summer!  We volunteer and baby-sit together all the time.  We got to volunteer this summer in the Mother/Baby Unit at NW Community Hospital.  We were so excited!  Each week, we'd go into the Nursery and we'd each pick out a baby we thought was the cutest.  We would always want to take them home!  I think we had to reassure the nurses we weren't actually going to take them!

Little did I know I'd  be working in Mother Baby and in a few short months, I'll be that RN I was so excited about becoming. :)

And in other news....

I don't think I could ever be in a long distance relationship soley based on that it's super hard for me to say 'good bye' to one of my best friends whenever she comes to visit or when I visit her. I HATE good bye's. :( I had a great time; went to the city on Thursday in which it poured the entire time we were there.... this made it a bit wet. We were all soaked but saw the Sears Tower, I rode the L for the first time, saw the Bean and then took about an hour to hail a cab. Friday was breakfast at Wildberry (yum!) and then IKEA. We met our friend Holly for dinner, which is always fun to see her <3. Saturday we went to lunch and then went to the store to get some food to watch the LSU game. And, as usual, when it was time to say good bye, embarrassed myself by tearing up. I had a blast, especially with Addison. She's so much fun. It makes me hate that they live 8 hours away (though I guess it could be worse). :-\

In other news, I got an A in critical care and emergency medicine clinical. :-) I am so thrilled!! I also got an A in role transition and unfortunately missed an A in critical care lecture by 2%. :( BUT I will take the B. :) I begin my preceptorship for the next 7 weeks working 7a-7p in Mother Baby. Of course with that comes work; a 3-5 page paper every week of our experience that week and at the end, a 15 page paper on the experience overall. We also have to do a poster presentation November 30th about a topic that is of interest in the area we're precepting in (ie: Mother Baby for me). I can't even keep my work schedule straight anymore between all of this switching for my preceptorship since my preceptor works the same weekends as I do :-\ It's 7 weeks though so it's all good. I finally sat down and tried to figure out my schedule for the preceptorship and wrote a list. I do <3 lists. I had to rearrange things because we're trying to go to Wisconsin for Thanksgiving to spend it with my grandma, since we got some not so good news regarding her cancer..... so in order to get my 176.5 total hours in for the 7 weeks, I'm basically going to be working full time at this other hospital plus my part time at my usual hospital. I'm going to be Mother Baby'd OUT. Birth control anyone?
























Nursing cap photos are November 2nd... and I could NOT be more thrilled to get these. I marvel at all of my friends who have had them taken in past semesters. It's like a rite of passage... THRILLED!! I seriously hope I have a good hair day that day and don't look 300lbs. That'd be a huge (no pun intended) bummer.

7 more weeks and I'm DONE with nursing school. I cannot believe it.

Final Countdown.

I canNOT believe we're at this point! I had my final simulation on Thursday; two parts. One was a septic patient that we had to cure and then the other was an 'end of life' simulation where we had to comfort the patient's family after the patient expired. The sepsis simulation went great! My instructor said my critical thinking was AWESOME! This is so great to hear because sometimes I feel I lack that.... common sense? No problem. But beyond that? I question. Anything positive from the instructors is something I will gladly take. 

Final Simulation

We have our final for critical care on Wednesday. Our LAST test of nursing school before the NCLEX. I just cannot believe it. Then we have the HESI on the following Thursday and then we start the preceptorship for 7 weeks (which I am in Mother Baby). :-) It just all seems so weird. Plus, this Wednesday when we have our final will be the last time my class will be together in one room. Two years together and now this is it.
